This type of handcrafted box is buit like any other box then I shaved down the sides
using power tools for the rough shape then using a hand planes I fine tune
the shape. The effect is a box that almost floats on air with the bottom and
the top sloping away from the center. The body of the box is Cherry with added
slip feathers of Maple at each corner. The top is Birds Eye Maple surrounded
by Maple with an inlayed strip of Walnut. It's 11 ½" long x 7 ½"
wide x 4" tall. The inside tray is 9 ½" x 4"x ¾"
deep with two sections. The area under the tray is 1" deep. The top pivots
on two brass dowel pins.
